The Witcher 3 Wolf School gear: standard diagrams and portal crystals

Find standard Wolf School diagrams at Kaer Morhen, stabilize the signal-tower portal, and avoid mixing the original set with Forgotten Wolf gear.

Original Wolf School set

The six standard Wolven diagrams are in the Kaer Morhen region. Armor comes through the old signal-tower portal; the steel and silver swords are separate stops. This is not the Forgotten Wolf School quest.

Legacy route and portal mechanism. Access to the region is a story prerequisite; a purchased map does not teleport you there.

Stabilize the portal before jumping

  1. Read Hieronymus’ notes in the tower and examine the portal mechanism.
  2. Find the loose polished crystal on the outside scaffolding, reached through the cracked wall near the exit side.
  3. Install it in the mechanism and charge it with Aard.
  4. Charge the other mechanism too. A flickering portal is not the stable result you want.
  5. Enter the stable portal, deal with the cave’s wraith and loot the skeleton for the four armor diagrams.

A route problem versus the old chest bug

The legacy wiki records a historically unlootable notes chest. That record is not proof the same bug persists in your Remastered build, and following the portal steps is not a guaranteed fix for a chest that cannot be opened. Preserve a save before the tower, record the chest and crystal state, and report an unresponsive interaction with your version.

Check the exact “Wolven” names before crafting. If you are looking for the Forgotten Wolf quest reward, this standard hunt is the wrong destination. Compare Cat or Griffin only when choosing a different set, not as a repair for a missing Wolf diagram.
