Turn frame generation off and check how the same combat encounter feels at the underlying frame rate. An October 6 RTX 5070 player found that a smooth generated image hid a roughly 30 FPS starting point. Reducing tracing settings improved their comparison; it is not a benchmark or a universal preset.
Set up the NVIDIA statistics overlay
NVIDIA documents enabling In-Game Overlay in the app's Settings → Features. Alt+R is the default statistics toggle. Use Alt+Z → Statistics → Configure heads up display to choose available metrics; customized shortcuts can differ.
Write down the metric names as well as their values. NVIDIA's FrameView documentation distinguishes PC latency from a complete mouse-to-screen measurement: it does not include mouse or monitor display latency. A single overlay number therefore cannot certify that your whole input chain has no delay.
Compare one repeatable encounter
- Record GPU, driver, full game build, resolution, upscaling, tracing and frame-generation settings.
- Use the same save, camera and encounter. Turn frame generation off and record FPS and responsiveness.
- If this baseline feels sluggish, reduce one expensive setting, such as path tracing, and repeat with generation still off.
- Once the baseline is acceptable, enable generation again and compare movement, dodging and image stability.
The thread's suggestion of approximately 60 FPS before generation is a player target, not a hard Witcher requirement. Choose the settings that feel responsive on your system rather than optimizing only the displayed generated count.
Decide from the result
If generation makes motion smoother while controls remain comfortable, keeping it is a reasonable personal choice. If the control feel or artifacts worsen, leave it off and keep the better baseline. Retain both captures and settings if you report the difference.
A feature that switches off after dialogue has a different task: use the DLSS reset checklist. For image softness with FSR, use the resolution comparison. No console, AMD or Steam Deck latency result is established by this RTX 5070 report.
