The Witcher 3 rollback: Classic 1.32, Next-Gen 4.04 and save limits

Use the supported Steam or GOG version controls, distinguish Classic from Next-Gen, and keep pre-upgrade saves before changing away from Remastered.

Keep a pre-upgrade save

Steam and GOG provide older-version controls; Epic’s support instructions say it offers only the latest version. Changing installed files does not prove that a save written by a newer build will load in the older one.

Which version are you choosing?

Classic refers to 1.32. The current PC requirements article also says 4.04 rollback is available for Remastered. The older rollback article gives exact Classic menu steps, but not a verified present-day 4.04 branch label. Choose an explicitly labelled older version in your launcher; do not guess a branch from an unrelated beta name.

Keep your original pre-upgrade save and mods separately before the switch. Existing-save compatibility with Remastered is not a bidirectional save guarantee.

Verify the switch without losing the original

  1. Wait for the launcher to finish changing files.
  2. Read the build in the game’s main menu and compare it with your intended version.
  3. Use a compatible earlier save copy for the test. Do not overwrite the only newer save.
  4. Match mods to that version. A working mod on one branch is not automatically compatible on another.

If Classic fails to launch, PC 5.00c explicitly lists a Classic 1.32 launch fix; update the relevant launcher installation before assuming that problem is a saved-game failure. Console rollback, Battle.net rollback and exact current branch inventories are not established here.
