Witcher 3 Remastered AMD black textures and artifacts: driver checks

Distinguish missing textures from image softness, check a supported Radeon driver, and compare one scene without assuming every AMD setup has the same fix.

For black blocks, black grass or missing textures on a Windows Radeon system, check your exact GPU and installed driver before treating it as an FSR sharpness problem. AMD's September 29 Adrenalin 26.9.2 notes explicitly add Witcher 3 Remastered support. Some launch-thread players reported improvement with that driver, while others still reported problems. This is a supported-driver check, not a guaranteed repair.

Separate the visual symptoms

The Reddit thread's original setup is RX 9070 XT with Ryzen 7 9800X3D. Replies describe black blocks, dark vegetation and missing assets. Softness or ghosting without missing geometry has a separate FSR image comparison; dark interiors without these artifacts have an HDR comparison.

Record GPU, Windows version, full game build, storefront, driver version, resolution, upscaling, ray tracing and mods. Capture one reproducible scene. The thread was read October 7 through a public snapshot labelled “crawled last week”; its relative “hours ago” labels are not today's posting times.

Check a supported driver for your hardware

  1. Read the current package's compatibility and known-issue sections on AMD's official release notes. Version 26.9.2 is a dated supported reference here, not a claim that it remains the latest driver.
  2. For a desktop Radeon GPU supported by that Windows package, use AMD's official product download route. Record your existing version before updating; do not install a forum-hosted or unreleased review driver.
  3. For a notebook, all-in-one or handheld, use the manufacturer's supported driver route. AMD recommends OEM drivers for notebook-specific support and says this Adrenalin package does not support handheld gaming devices.
  4. Follow the vendor's installer instructions, then repeat the same game scene without changing several graphics settings at once.

Judge the change from the same scene

Check whether the black blocks disappear, missing assets return and the game remains stable. Save the before/after captures and both version numbers. A higher FPS counter alone does not show that the image issue is repaired.

Replies by weissmuller and NucaPuturoasa report improvement on 26.9.2. kiD_gRim instead reports lockups, and ElMicrowavo still sees artifacts. Older-driver suggestions also conflict. Do not turn one successful setup into a universal 26.3.1 rollback prescription or assume a Ryzen CPU is the cause.

If it persists or starts crashing

For suspected incomplete game files, use the storefront's verification procedure. Keep saves and the mod list before installation changes. If a supported driver comparison does not help, send the exact scene, hardware, game/driver versions and captures to AMD or CDPR support. Describe a new crash separately from the original texture problem.

This page does not establish a safe driver rollback for every Radeon card, a console fix, or a Linux Mesa/Proton result. Stop repeating an unstable comparison; preserve the prior settings and use the vendor's recovery guidance.
