The orchid wearer leads you to a heart-shaped box; its perfume trail leads to Cecilia's room. Continue the murder investigation through the balcony to Orianna's bedroom. The woman wearing the orchid is not Cecilia, so finding her is only the first clue.
Prepare and find the orchid clue
This is a Blood and Wine main quest. Use the active objective to meet the duchess for the party. Suitable older elegant clothes work in the historical route; if you lack them, the duchess provides a set. The mask is supplied either way.
At the party, find the orchid-wearing woman posing for Dorian Vilesse. She explains that she caught Cecilia's flower and saw a heart-shaped gift near the refreshment tables. Party entertainments are optional, not a requirement to unlock the investigation.
Follow the actual evidence chain
- Inspect the heart-shaped box at the refreshment tables with Witcher Senses.
- Follow its perfume scent to the guarded room; the duchess's voice gets you past the bodyguard.
- After finding Cecilia, inspect the bloody handprint leading to the balcony.
- Follow the trail over the doorway and up the ladder to Orianna's bedroom.
- Inspect the struggle evidence, valuable jewel and decorative hunting knife, then complete the conversation when the duchess and Orianna arrive.
Confirm the next investigation
The knife points the investigation toward Dun Tynne. Finish the remaining conversations with the duchess, Regis and Dettlaff and check that the journal advances. Collecting one item without completing the room investigation and dialogue is not the same checkpoint.
If you lose the trail, return to the last inspected clue and re-enable Witcher Senses rather than searching the whole city. Keep a save before the party and record the exact objective if an interaction remains absent. A walkthrough route is not a confirmed fix for a broken script.
Keep this quest separate from the ending route
This guide covers the party investigation, not the full Dun Tynne assault or later branching finale. For that later branch entry, use The Night of Long Fangs; for the sisters' later decision chain, use the Blood and Wine ending guide. Historical route facts do not establish unchanged 5.x timing or a current command repair.
