Capture the Castle: quest cutoff and Dun Tynne assault

Prepare before the Blood and Wine lock-in, meet Damien at midnight, and follow the assault through Roderick and the manor.

Finish The Warble of a Smitten Knight and prepare your equipment before agreeing to Damien's assault. The legacy walkthroughs identify that tournament quest as the important failure risk. The story then restricts normal side activities and shopping until its finale; the warning does not mean every unfinished Toussaint quest is permanently lost.

Before telling Damien you are ready

This follows The Man from Cintra. Complete the tournament if you want its outcome, repair gear, replenish supplies and finish purchases. Make a separate manual save before committing; keep that checkpoint rather than relying on an autosave made during the assault.

Check the tournament's journal status now. If it has already failed on your current branch, preparing supplies will not reverse it. Use a save from before the cutoff if that quest matters to your playthrough.

From the mill to the manor

  1. Meet Damien at Count de la Croix's Mill at midnight and confirm readiness.
  2. Fight through the first guards and the courtyard. Defeat Roderick's group, then speak with him.
  3. Decide whether to help Roderick's wounds. The historical guide counts helping him toward Compassion for There Can Be Only One.
  4. Continue through the bandit groups. Against Iron Borg, clear his helpers before concentrating on him.
  5. Reach the balcony archers, where Regis and Dettlaff join you, then advance to the manor.

Know when the assault is complete

The manor conversations reveal Syanna's role and Dettlaff's threat; Anna Henrietta's order completes the assault and moves the story toward The Night of Long Fangs. Do not confuse the rescued-hostage objective with the expansion's final outcome.

If Damien's meeting is unavailable, compare your tracked quest and time of day with the mill objective. If the journal has progressed into the next quest, use that route instead of repeating the assault. For a changed tournament or ending decision, return to the protected earlier save; no quest-fact command repair is verified here.
