Possession: Brokvar, Cerys’s oven trick or the hym fight

Find Brokvar, recognize why returning it fails, then choose Cerys’s trick or the witcher’s combat method to free Udalryk.

Trusting Cerys and following the oven instruction completes her trick; the baby survives because Hjort retrieves him from behind the oven. Refusing leads to the witcher's fight method instead. This is a scripted quest choice, not an ordinary item interaction.

Find Cerys and return Brokvar

Follow Crach's task to Spikeroog, question the locals and locate Cerys at Udalryk's abandoned family home. Find the cellar key and collect Brokvar downstairs. Follow the drowning-site objective and interact with Aki's underwater skeleton to return the sword.

Udalryk's suffering continues afterward. That is the documented story transition to identifying the hym, rather than evidence that you delivered the sword incorrectly.

Follow Cerys's plan

Investigate the abandoned home and accept her trick. Light the oven and follow the timed instruction when she arrives with the baby. After the guards' attack, the reveal shows the child is safe and defeats the hym's attempt to feed on guilt.

Use the witcher's method

Explain the hym to Udalryk and Hjort, prepare the four wall sconces and light them for the confrontation. Use Specter Oil and manage the fight; when Udalryk flees, calm him with Axii so the hym can reappear. Place the torches through the sconce interactions; when the hym retreats to the cellar, follow it downstairs and finish the fight. Then speak to Udalryk outside.

Verify the resolution before moving on

Keep a save before the plan choice if you want to compare the two methods. Check the concluding conversation and quest journal, then continue Skellige's succession through King's Gambit.

If the hym disappears mid-fight, first check Udalryk's state rather than assuming the boss is permanently missing. If a stage remains blocked after the documented interaction, record objective, platform and build. No new 5.x timer, damage threshold or quest-command recovery is certified.
