Remastered is a free upgrade within the supported platform ecosystem. It released September 29, 2026 for PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Switch 2. An old store label and an installed patch number answer different questions.
Match your ownership to your device
| Your situation | First check |
|---|---|
| PC Steam, GOG or Epic owner | Update the owned game through that launcher. Check whether an older branch is selected. |
| PlayStation or Xbox owner | Check the upgrade for your account and current-generation device. PS4 and Xbox One are not listed as Remastered platforms. |
| Original Switch owner with Switch 2 | The official FAQ lists a free Switch 2 upgrade. Check ownership under the same ecosystem. |
| Moving to a different ecosystem | Cross progression transfers a character; it does not establish a free game license on the destination. |
Verify the installed game
- Finish the launcher or console update, then start the game.
- Read the version displayed in the main menu. Record the full number when asking for help.
- If you chose an older PC branch, follow the version-switching guide to return to the current version.
- For an existing character, keep the original save and review the reset skills before fighting.
Complete Edition, expansions and saves
The supported Remastered release replaces Complete Edition and includes Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine. A launcher still showing an older edition name is not, by itself, proof of missing content. Check the build and the expansion-start options.
The official FAQ says existing saves are compatible with Remastered. This does not establish that a newly written 5.x save loads in Classic. If the update or entitlement is absent, collect the platform, edition and purchase/upgrade status for platform support. Regional availability restrictions may apply; the FAQ specifically excludes the Switch upgrade in Russia and Belarus.
