Reach Ves and protect her during the Mulbrydale battle before deciding the surviving soldier's fate. A save before the fight is the useful recovery point if she dies; a later dialogue choice cannot repair that earlier failure.
Reach the battle with Roche
Follow Roche's invitation associated with the Get Junior sequence and his camp north of Oxenfurt. Meet him at the Hanged Man's Tree to investigate Ves's attack on the Nilfgaardians in Mulbrydale.
Prepare your character before starting the encounter and keep a manual save. On arrival, prioritize enemies threatening Ves rather than taking time to loot or finish distant targets first. Watch the battle situation instead of assuming she is invulnerable because she is a quest character.
Choose the survivor branch
After the fight, one Nilfgaardian remains alive. The cited legacy route distinguishes sparing him from killing him: sparing preserves the village shop access, while killing leads to reprisals and the merchant/swordsmith closing.
That branch belongs to the post-battle conversation. It is separate from whether Ves survived the fighting. Save checkpoints should preserve both facts when comparing outcomes.
Confirm the quest result
- Complete the conversation with Roche and Ves.
- Read the journal outcome before advancing the campaign.
- If Ves died and you want another result, replay the pre-battle save.
- If she lived but the quest remains blocked, record the active objective and encounter state.
This is an original-game route, not a verified current AI or damage fix. No specific build, forced difficulty setting or resurrection command is guaranteed. For the earlier Novigrad investigation, use Get Junior's clues; do not confuse its investigation with this separate rescue task.
