Monster trophy not dropping in The Witcher 3 Remastered

Separate a missing quest item from a hidden loot point, then test a save from before the kill.

The useful first check

If the quest trophy is missing from the loot window on PC, protect your saves, disable mods, and replay from a separate save made before the monster died. A Remastered v5.0 community report describes success with this sequence. A save made after the kill did not regenerate the trophy in that report. This is a limited test, with no guarantee for your build.

This page concerns an in-game monster quest item. PlayStation trophies, Steam achievements and GOG achievement lists are separate problems. The community's exact minor build is unknown.

First, match your symptom

What you seeWhat to do nextEvidence boundary
Noonwraith / Devil by the Well: ordinary loot appears, but the quest trophy is absent and the objective still asks for it.Use the backup and pre-kill replay sequence below.Direct community success in reply #20; PC v5.0 thread, minor build unknown.
Griffin: you cannot find the loot interaction near the body.Check around the remains with Witcher Senses. One reply found the interaction offset from the corpse.Reply #7 describes a pickup-location issue. It does not explain a trophy missing from an opened loot window.
Griffin: you already looted the body, but the head/trophy is absent.Preserve a pre-kill save and record your mod setup. Treat the replay below as a diagnostic attempt.Replies #8–#14 report this different symptom; no build-specific guaranteed fix.
White Lady: normal loot, no trophy, blocked objective.Keep the affected save and collect the same report details. A pre-kill test may be possible, but its result is unknown.Reply #21 reports the symptom; #28 reports completing the quest in a clean setup. Neither proves this workaround repaired the White Lady case.
A platform achievement is missing, but the contract item was collected.Use the platform's achievement/support route. The PC monster-loot evidence does not establish a PS5, Xbox or Switch 2 achievement fix.

Protect your saves before changing anything

Quit the game. Make a separate backup of your local saves and identify one from before the relevant monster was killed. Keep your current progress too. A cloud copy alone is a weak rollback plan if sync can replace it. Do not overwrite your only working save for this test.

Record your platform, storefront, installed build, quest name, exact objective, and every enabled mod and version. Capture the empty trophy slot or loot window if possible. The point is to compare two setups without losing the evidence or your progress.

Try the limited PC replay route

  1. Confirm the item is actually absent. Open the loot interaction and check your inventory and objective. An offset interaction and a missing item need different responses.
  2. Disable the mods you recorded. Use the installation method that manages them. Check both the game's mod menu and any separate PC mod manager you use.
  3. Launch the game and load the separate pre-kill save. Keep the original affected save untouched. Replaying from after the death is not the successful sequence reported in #20.
  4. Defeat the monster and inspect its loot. Success means the required trophy is available to collect and the quest objective advances after collection. Merely finding regular loot is not success.
  5. If the trophy appears, save the successful result separately. You have a useful comparison for that setup. You have not identified which mod caused the issue.

In-game mods and Vortex are different checks

The original poster used the in-game mod menu and reported success after disabling their mods and starting fresh (#18). That report does not make a new game a required step: #20 supplies the less costly pre-kill-save route.

For Vortex users, #20 specifically recommends purging deployed mods after disabling them. Preserve your saves, mod list and manager profile first; check Vortex's description of the action before applying it. Disabling an in-game mod does not prove a separate manager has removed its deployed files.

A separate user reported leftovers from an earlier modded installation (#19). This is a reason to inspect deployment status, not a reason to blindly empty folders. Do not delete files without a backup and a clear account of how they were installed.

If you have no pre-kill save, or it still fails

No earlier save: there is no verified retroactive recovery here. Keep your progress and send a support report rather than overwriting it or restarting solely on this page's advice.

Already unmodded, or the controlled retry fails: stop attributing the problem to mods. Preserve both saves and the exact results, then contact CD PROJEKT RED support. If you also cannot save or load, use the PC save/load version check first.

The original poster had already tried investigation order, older saves and travel without solving this symptom (#14). We therefore do not prescribe a quest-order routine, console item IDs or forced monster spawns as a verified repair.

What the evidence supports

The English Steam thread began September 29, 2026 and was checked on October 4 with 31 replies visible. Replies #18–#20 support a mod-free comparison; #20 supplies the pre-kill condition. Later completion reports are not controlled tests of every affected quest. No specific culprit is established, so no named mod update is prescribed.

The official PC 5.00c notes do not list a monster-trophy fix. Omission cannot prove the issue remains in that patch. This guide is an attributed community workaround, not our own 5.00c playtest or an all-platform fix.
