Take an emerald to a craftsman and inspect the dismantling preview for emerald dust. Compare the fee with the price of dust in stock before buying a gem just to break it down.

Choose among three routes
| Route | When it makes sense |
|---|---|
| Dismantle an owned emerald | The preview shows the needed material and the fee is acceptable. |
| Buy dust from a craftsman | The material is actually in that merchant’s stock and you can afford it. |
| Check wraith loot and exploration | You are already doing the relevant contract or exploring; a drop is possible, not assured. |
A safe crafting transaction
- Read the recipe and count how much emerald dust is missing.
- At the craftsman, choose Dismantle and select the exact emerald or eligible item.
- Read the output and fee before confirming. Do not dismantle equipped gear solely because its name sounds related.
- Return to the recipe and check that the material count increased. If the recipe still fails, identify its next missing component rather than buying more dust.
If the White Orchard contract gave no dust
The community mentions Devil by the Well and wraiths as sources, but does not establish a fixed dust drop. Lack of that crafting material is different from a missing quest trophy. Do not repeatedly replay a kill expecting a guaranteed gem component that the evidence does not promise.
If the contract’s trophy is absent, use the trophy guide. If you are missing the sword recipe itself, confirm the school and tier first; materials cannot replace a diagram. Avoid assigning a universal cheapest merchant when prices and stock have not been checked for your build.
